Some Disadvantages :
Bureaucracy in Government Departments : This has decreased but can be a frustration for both Spanish and foreigners. For example : Buying a second - hand car entails visiting 2 local offices and waiting your turn. Best to arrive early or appoint an official representative to do it for you. A fee is involved.
Manana Concept/Siesta : This has certainly become less prevalent as Spain wishes to unify with the habits of other European countries. Banks now open late Thursday evenings and, whilst '9.00' might mean not quite that to a Spaniard, the people are becoming more punctual and, incidentally, learning English! Patience is sometimes needed.
Land Grab : This has been featured predominately in the media. This particular negative aspect of property purchase is confined to the Valencia area although, technically, any house built without permission can be demolished.
Property Crash : There is really no impending property crash in Spain. However, the market has slowed and growth rates of 25% - 30% in property values have fallen to an annual rate of about 10%. It is the ideal market for buyers, not so much for sellers. Even in the UK this occurs and a crash has been predicted there but supply and demand prevail.
